How to Join the Team
The San Gorgonio Search and Rescue Team is a group of dedicated volunteers who are on call 24 hours a day 365 days a year to search for people who are lost and to rescue those who are injured. The team is made up of volunteers from all walks of life: engineers, computer programmers, teachers, lawyers, mechanics, business professionals and police officers. Membership starts with attending three monthly administrative meetings in a row. These meetings are held the third Tuesday of every month at the Mill Creek ranger station (Address at bottom of page). If you need directions, send an email to info@sgsar.org, visitors are always welcome. Basic requirements are:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Must have a valid driver's license
- Pass an oral interview
- Pass a basic background check
- Pass a medical examination
After completing the oral interview process and you become a prospective member, you will need to complete the minimum training requirements within your first year. The minimum training requirements are:
- Attend the Department's Basic SAR course (2 weekends)
- Pass the NASAR SAR Technician II test (included in the Basic SAR course)
- Attend the Department's Driver Awareness Course (1-day)
